Chilean poet and artist Cecilia Vicuña creates poems, paintings, sculpture, and film to explore alternative systems of knowledge that respect the Indigenous traditions that are a part of her heritage, while finding new ways to form connections with others. In this film, she talks about her exploration of the quipu, an ancient South American recording and communication system made from knotted threads. The installation: 'Brain Forest Quipu' at Tate Modern looks at our collective responsibility to change destructiveness, injustices and harm. (11 October 2022 – 16 April 2023) |

In 2018, the Brazilian artist, Juliana Notari made a pilgrimage to Belém do Pará to perform Amuamas at Igarapé Piriquitaquara on Ilha do Combu. In a "gesture of persistence", embedded with mysticism, she returned to the Amazon forest laden with surgical instruments and her menstrual blood – collected over nine months – in search of the great “Sacred Mother of the Forest”, the centenary samaúma tree to perform a ritualistic and intrusive action, leaving her mark embedded in the forest.
