Walking the Spiral

A Year of Embodied Ancestral Practice

A year long creative, ancestral, and embodied journey of writing, healing and making that unfolds season by season.

"Planting words, like seeds, under rocks and fallen logs--letting language take root, once again, in the earthen silence of shadow and bone and leaf." (Abram, 1997, p.273)

Why this online, year-long format?  In the shorter introductory workshops completed in 2025 it became clear this inner creative and ancestral exploration needed more space, depth + time.

Walking the Spiral offers that spaciousness to bring your writing, your stories, research or art project to develop and share. It offers time for healing, connection, time to breathe, play and be curious.

Walking the Spiral, 2026
Walking the Spiral, is an online year long journey created to deepen your practice through ancestral, natural, and elemental landscapes, while unravelling personal and collective pasts. Together we will be clearing a pathway for a continuing return to self, utilising ritual, meditation, writing and art to transform inherited patterns into hope, potential and the possibility to embody and create the future we want to build.

Each season offers a distinct but interwoven layer of inquiry and practice. Together, we will move through the cyclical rhythm of the year, deepening relationship, expanding awareness, sharing stories and folklore. We will be finding creative ways to sit with our ancestral legacies, while addressing traumatic cycles and reimagining a different future.

The group becomes a field of reflection. Working together deepens our journey, harnesses the power of collective thinking + witnessing, and opens space for shared insight, resonance, and transformation. Within this expanded field of attention, each person’s story becomes part of a larger whole — revealing patterns, kinships, and unexpected wisdom.

Together we will develop shared walking practices that deepen your relationship with the natural world, self and other, harnessing ancestral and Goddess energy through monthly practices and prayers. Additionally, there will be recommended reading, resources and exercises to support your writing, storytelling and/or arts practice.

As the months unfold and our shared practice deepens, the group grows roots to form a network of creative support that sustains each participant’s unfolding journey and hold what at times is too much for each of us as individuals to bear. Together we will be creating a way of being and walking through the world with ancestral awareness.

Each session is paced to honour integration. Between sessions, homework and adopting a practice of radical tenderness, will allow for the shifts to root deeply as we continue to walk the spiral together and apart.

Winter (Jan–Mar): Familial Ancestors. As we immerse ourselves in hibernation, this season invites us to listen inwardly and reconnect with our roots, our personal ancestral lineage, and the stories that shape us. We will be embracing the embedded networks of kinship that run through our DNA, exploring our memories and imaginations, getting to know our underlying narratives.
Theme: Remembering and Reconnecting
Focus: Our personal ancestors, learning about presence, setting intention, divining a plan for the year.

Spring (Apr–Jun): Tribal/Natural Ancestors. With spring comes renewal. This is the season to turn toward the living world — to attune to the ancestral knowledge carried by land, plants, and other-than-human kin. We’ll explore how we might nurture new life within ourselves, each other and in our relationships with the more-than-human world.
Theme: Growth and Reciprocity
Focus: Land, ecology, belonging, the wisdom of the natural world, home.

Summer (Jul–Sep): The Elemental Ancestors. In the heat of summer, energy rises and transformation calls. This is the time to explore the basic elements of fire, water, air, and earth as ancient teachers and mirrors of our own internal states. Through creative practice we’ll explore how the elements shape us and how they can restore balance and vitality.
Theme: Transformation and Integration
Focus: The elements as ancestors, alchemical resources, magic solutions.

Autumn (Oct–Dec): Our Future Ancestors. As the year turns and we move toward winter again, this season invites reflection, harvesting, and imagining forward. We’ll explore what it means to become a future ancestor — how to write, create, and live without falling into polarisation, and how to weave pathways toward possible futures in presence with clarity, not fearing the darkness, loss or grief of a world in change.
Theme: Vision and Continuity
Focus: Legacy, futurity, creative and ecological responsibility, embodied hope.

Field trips in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Dates, costs and locations to be confirmed.

The meditations were magical – not a hyperbole but an actual experience. They helped shift/birth something vital in my being that I can’t quite put into words." Prerna, 2025
